Dori’s Birthday Wishes

#TheCatBall – We Figured It Out!

Ever hear the saying, “Life is a Ball?”  At The Cat Ball company, the hoomons know what they’re talking about.

Mom brought home this big red ball from Blogpaws. She knew I would be the first to claim it, and I was!

DORI: MY SECRET HIDEAWAY. NOBODY GONNA KNOW I’M IN HERE.

MOM SEZ THIS IS THE CHRISTMAS CAT BALL. PHOOEY! I THINK IT’S WONDERPURR ALL YEAR ROUND!

I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE MY CAT BALL, BUT I’M HUNGRY. I WONDER…DOES THE CAT BALL COMPANY PROVIDE NOM DELIVERY?

OPIE: FINALLY! I THOUGHT DORI WOULD NEVER LEAVE! OHHH. THIS IS SO COZY. AND BEST OF ALL, NO ONE CAN SEE ME.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKIN’ AT? THIS IS MINE!

THIS CAT BALL IS PROBABLY THE COZIEST CATPARTMENT I’VE EVER ENJOYED. SOFT. SNUGGILY. THE PURRFECT SIZE, EVEN FOR A BIG BOY LIKE ME!

The Christmas Cat Ball® is an adorable special edition cat bed for your kitty. The Cat Ball designers paired crimson red panne velvet with cute calico cotton and added a white fur trim to each of the openings. The result is a totally cute Christmas cat cave to place under your tree…or on your bed in the summertime!

The Cat Ball® is a hexagonal modern cat bed design made of six thick foam panels. Our original cat cave design has two openings, one larger than the other: the small one is about 6″ and the larger one is about 10″. The bed diameter is 17″, the height is about 16″.

The Cat Ball® cat bed is compressible, washable and cats from all around the world love it.

Dori and Opie love their Cat Ball. And Mom loves it because it’s made in the USA! And best of all, you can get it on sale right now at TheCatBall.com.

#Yeowww! ChiCatA Banana is Wonderpurr

I knew when I opened the goodie bag from Blogpaws and smelled something truly Wonderpurr…I was gonna have to fight to keep it.

Sure enough, after pawing through the bag I discovered a yellow banana filled with the absolute best-stinking catnip on this planet.

After a few sniffs, I was totally buzzed and lovin’ it!

I slept with my Yeowww! banana, and took it everywhere I went cuz I had a bad feeling that when I got home, I was gonna lose it to my fur sibs. Read More

#Blogpaws Diary – Final Post

Hi Furends! Well, I’m home after a long week in Myrtle Beach, SC, attending the Blogpaws conference. Sorry I didn’t post more stuff while at the conference, but the pace is fast, and my Mom had back trouble that put her in a massage therapist hands for an hour…and I was a bit of a crabby puss cuz… Cat. So writing in my diary every night turned impossible. But I’m here now to do a recap of what went on for those of you not there.

To begin with, me and Mom had a great time hanging out with the pawrents of @BionicBasil, @ErintheCat1, @TheLittle_Dude, @MKandHerBC, @ChirpyCats, @Lola_RescuedCat, @SnotfaceCritter, @NoirKittyMews, and making new friends to see again next year in Kansas City.

I especially had a great time on Thursday night when I wandered the third floor while mom, @ErintheCat1 and @ChirpyCats sat on the floor outside their rooms, chatting like old friends. Mom told me later that’s the best way to get to know people — by obstructing hall traffic.

Here are a few highlights from our week at Blogpaws:

Dori Wants Her #Smittens – Even When She’s Not a Good Girl

Hi! It’s me, Dori. *wavy paws* Lately I’ve been thinking about how I only get my favorite tweats ~ Smittens! ~ when I’m a good grrrl.  I don’t think that’s fair. I mean, I’m a good grrrl on most days. But what about those days when I accidentally bweak something? Not on purrpose! It’s not my fault Mom’s tchotchkes are so poorly made that they explode when they hit the floor.

So, I’m thinking of starting a pwotest over being denied my Smittens whenever I feel in the mood to nom their fishy goodness.

Wait. What? Yoo haven’t heard about my favorite tweats? Well, gather awound, pals and let me meow about them.

Dori-for-Smittens-700x466

“Smittens treats are made by The Honest Kitchen. They are cute, heart-shaped and crunchy, all very impawtent to me. They are also 100% grain-free, made from pure, wild, line-caught Haddock from the pristine waters off the coast of Iceland, all very impawtent to my meowmy.”

Dori-tastes-Smittens-700x465 “I understand these tweats are made wif no fillers or by-products. Just pure 100% dehydrated Haddock, packaged in the U.S.A. The Honest Kitchen didn’t get its name by being sneaky, and that’s the troof!”

Tummy-Happy-700x466

“I’d like to thank the Academy… I mean, Chewy.com for sending me dis package of Smittens. Eating Smittens tweats is like a pawty in my mouf. Smittens also makes my tummy happy. If you want a pawty in your happy tummy, visit Chewy.com and tell them Dori sent you.”

Dori Reviews #PioneerPet Raindrop Fountain for Frank

Hi everyone! It’s me, Dori. *wavy paws*

As yoo may have heard, my brofur Fwank almost died this past month from a blocked bladder. It was horrible! Something my Mom never wants to go through again with any of us. So she bought us a new fountain. I asked to review it before she gave it to Fwank cuz he’s a copycat and he likes most of the stuff I like.

Grab a bag of tweats and pull up a chair. This is my review:

Mom Kim: I purchased the Pioneer Pet Raindrop Fountain from Chewy.com because I liked the design.  Two cats can drink at the same time. The fountain part is made of stainless steel. It has a charcoal filter and was easy to assemble with a 60oz water capacity. Since I’m refilling the fountain every day, clearly The Wonderpurr Gang is using the fountain…including Frank. Since Chewy.com has wonderpurr prices, I plan to buy a couple more of these fountains.

As mentioned, I purchased this fountain. I am not being paid for this review.

Are Scented Candle Fumes Toxic to Cats?

This article was previously published in the Purrington Post. It is focused on cats, however quite obviously the deadly toxins from candles applies to not only cats, but dogs, birds, ferrets…humans! Please read and share. Super important Need To Know stuff here.

The Appeal of Scented Candles

Who of us haven’t indulged in the pleasure of scented candles in the home? They can infuse a room with delicious fragrance, or add a romantic ambiance to a meal and of course make bath time more relaxing and luxurious.  Sales of scented candles have soared in recent years as they have come to represent the ultimate expression of ‘me’ time.

As such, scented candles are a favorite indulgence of many households, but did you know that their fumes are as toxic as cigarettes? Burning low quality commercial candles in your home can cause serious illness to you, your family and your pets.

The Dangers

The problem is that most commercial candles are made of paraffin which comes from petroleum, and therefore it’s neither sustainable nor environmentally-friendly. Paraffin is the final residue left from refining crude oil. It’s made from the sludge in the bottom of a barrel of oil which is then bleached by adding dioxin and other poisonous chemicals and then texturized with a chemical called acrolyn. And afterwards, stearic acid, a byproduct of the meatpacking slaughterhouses, is added as a hardener. Read More

Suspicious Design Flaw … Pump on #Vaseline Lotion Bottle

Pictures always tell the real story. When I couldn’t pump any more product from this container of Vaseline Total Moisture hand lotion, I wrenched the top off. Wrench is a good word. Clearly the top isn’t meant to twist off. Then I pounded the container against a glass to empty out the remaining product. Look how much hand lotion was still inside even though I couldn’t pump it out. Hmmm. Design flaw? I wonder how many consumers toss it when it no longer pumps the lotion, figuring it to be empty?I see this as a subtle way of Big Biz hoping Average Josephine won’t bother doing what I did — pound out the remaining product — but instead buy a replacement. Think about this next time something appears to be empty.

Best Cat Food Reviews

At my house, everyone is gaining weight…except me, but that’s another story. Since joining our home this summer, Candy has gained 3-4 pounds. Mom says whenever a stray is adopted they will over-eat for the first year, and gain weight. She says that has to do with fear of going hungry again. They are storing up fats. Except once you’re adopted at my house…you’re in for Life.

With that said, if your fur kid is over weight, you may not be feeding them the right food. As you know, there are twelve of us at my house. Some are outside cats, but most of us are indoor kitties. Only Frank is an indoor/outdoor cat, and for the past few months he’s developed a habit of coming in from yard patrol and heading right for the kitchen where he yells to be fed. Mom has been distracted with stuff and has been giving in to him. Except…

Except when Frank eats, the opening of the kibble container is like the ringing of the dinner bell. Everyone comes running for a snack. Candy used to prefer only canned food. She rejected kibble. But now she sits with her head deep inside the kibble container and as a result she’s stretching the limits of her cat suit.

Mom worries about what to feed all of us. If she could afford to, she would feed us the Number 1 Best Ever Selling Cat Food in the Universe. But that ain’t gonna happen. So she’s always interested in learning more about how to feed us and keep us fit and trim, and above all–HEALTHY!

Recently Mom was contacted by Reviews.com with an Infographic Guide on cat food ingredients. They also provided a link to their research process. I think you’ll find it inpurresting. They said they analyzed 1,759 cat food formulas and found only 152 that were produced by a trustworthy brand with high-quality, risk-free ingredients. Gosh! If you’re interested in reading that, click this link to read:  http://www.reviews.com/cat-food/

Book Review: CatWise by Pam Johnson-Bennett

CatWise-Americas-Favorite-Cat-Expert-Answers-Your-Cat-Behavior-Questions-0Pam Johnson-Bennett, Certified Cat Behavior Consultant with thirty years of observing and advising experience, has written what I now consider my favorite Go-To-Bible on cat behavior. With credentials like behavior consultant for Cats Magazine, Cat Fancy’s Cat Channel, Catster, plus her U.K. series Psycho Kitty for Animal Planet, Pam clearly has a firm paw on understanding what makes our kitties hiss and purr.

CatWise answers your questions from training your kitten with Boot Camp Basics, to Litter Box Etiquette (in a chapter called Stinking Outside the Box – love it!) to Animal House – keeping peace when its reigning cats and dogs – to Old Friends, making the most of their golden years.

I consulted all of the above chapters and despite my umpteen years steeped in everything feline, I learned something new.

This book would be the purrrfect (sorry) gift for a newbie cat owner, but also for someone like me. Despite a lifetime of experience in a multi-cat home, my cats are still finding ways to tell me I don’t know everything.

CatWise is available October 18, 2016, just in time to kick off your Christmas shopping for the cat people in your life.

I received an unsolicited copy of CatWise free-of-charge from Penguin Random House publisher. My opinion regarding this book is my own, and not in any way influenced by Penguin Random House or author.

Dori’s Birthday Wishes

Today is Dori’s 4th birthday. And what does Dori want for her birthday? Treats, of course! Coincidentally, Chewy.com sent us a box of Wishes made by The Honest Kitchen, the makers of Smittens, Dori’s favorite treats. Naturally she was excited to open her present.

dori-makes-birthday-wishes

Wishes treats are 100% Icelandic haddock fillets made for both cats and dogs to enjoy. They are caught in the cold waters off the coast of Iceland using hook and line, not trawlers, to reduce impact on the ocean’s eco-system.  They’re grain-free and perfect for sensitive pets who suffer from allergies or intolerance to certain foods such as grains and proteins. Wishes come in large, dehydrated fillets – they can be snapped into smaller pieces for your dogs or cats. No fillers, by-products or GMO ingredients; made with 100% human-grade ingredients in the USA.

wonderpurr-aroma

Dori thinks they smell stinky good! She couldn’t wait for us to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to her so she could open the box.

best-birthday-wish

Large, dehydrated planks are hard and crunchy, and easily broken into to smaller pieces…if your pet will wait long enough for you to do so. The strong fish aroma isn’t offensive, and I like that they are made in an FDA-inspected human food facility.

I don’t have to guess what birthday wish Dori made this year. The Honest Kitchen came through for her once again!
