They were Best Friends for twelve years.
Only a year apart, they were inseparable. Where you saw Opie, Jack was nearby. They literally slept wrapped around each other for most of their lives, especially during their golden years.
Sadly we lost Jack last year to cancer. He was a special boy having been born under a neighbor's deck to Peaches. Jesse was Jack's littermate but because Jesse remained a garage cat (due to unprovoked spraying), the brothers didn't see each other for many years.
Jack went missing for a few weeks, and when he returned he was walking in circles. The Vet thought he'd had head trauma. After weeks spent at the hospital, Jack returned to me, but had turned feral. Never again could I pick him up. Didn't matter. He was loved and moved indoors where he met Opie and was reunited with his mom, Peaches.
While we understand the passing of a pet, it can't help but be noticed that the surviving pets also grieve. After Jack's passing we've noticed Opie has transferred his brotherly affection to KC, who is also a tabby of the same size and gentle nature as Jack was.
Opie turned 15 this past Saturday, and continues to have a very close relationship with Peaches.
It's heart break for humans when we lose a loved pet. But the bond between animals is just as strong and their heart break can be so difficult to witness. What lovely cats. We will enjoy meeting your kitties and come to know them. Lynn and Precious

ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
We do not have pets anymore unfortunately because of allergies. Sometimes I'm tempted but I resist the urge. It is sad when a pet dies. They are a part of the family, too. It's so interesting how the pets react during a loss. Lovely remembrance!
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet photos. I am sorry Jack is no longer with you. XO
